32 Weeks and Counting

As we near the end of 32 weeks of pregnancy, I thought I would update you on what our little one looks like and/or is doing in there. According to the weekly update I get, this week it is around 4 lbs. in weight and around 19 inches long. That being said, I don't think they know that my husband is 6'3"...so, with that info, our child is probably about, oh, 25 inches long. No, just kidding, but I am anticipating a rather long child. The update said it is also opening and shutting its eyes and that its layers of fat are thickening, aka its getting chubby!

As far as what this particular child is doing this week: it still loves the right side of my ribcage, its kicks get stronger every day, its most active time of the day is about 11pm (I think this is due to the fact that I dont stop moving until then). I have begun the saga of braxton hicks. I usually only have them when I am working, especially when I am walking a lot and don't have time to sit down. Thankfully they do not hurt at all, they last about 30-45 seconds and feel like a really tight rubber band across my lower abdomen. "They" say that braxton hicks are good because they tone your uterus to do the real job...push the little sucker out. Whatever it takes I guess. In case you can't tell by the tone of my 'voice', I'm not that excited about the braxton hicks...although, I really shouldn't complain as they are not painful.

In other news...Jason and I enjoyed our annual trip to the Iowa State Fair yesterday. It was a shorter trip than usual, we only stayed about 5 hours...but in that 5 hours we successfully saw many attractions including the Budweiser Clydesdales, the butter cow and butter Shaw Johnson (she's much cuter in human form), the largest pumpkin, and our favorite...an old farmer sitting at Pioneer Hall with the hydrolic engines...talking on his cell phone. Words don't do justice, but he was a sight to see. We also consumed our weeks worth of calories in those 5 hours...included in this food fest was a gizmo (sausage hogie with cheese), steak tips, the traditional lemonade shake-up from Pioneer Hall, tater ribbons and the oh-so-important shake from the Dairy Barn. The trip was great fun, and I could still see my ankles by the end of the day.
As if we hadn't eaten enough, we ended the day by meeting Jason's Dad and Step-mom, along with her daughter and son-in-law for dinner. This was a treat considering Jason's Dad lives on the southern side of KC and we will not see them again until the little one makes its appearance.

Those are some crazy details about little Blackley's current physical abilities. opening hiser eyes and everything! Honestly, Dollie, does it kind of weird you out?

And, for the record, I am seething with envy at your account of the Iowa State Fair... I didn't even make it to the lesser Missouri version this year.... someday, I really will come to the Iowa State fair... it will be like a pilgrimage!

I miss you guys!
