Feeding The Herds

It's been so hot and humid lately, that we just haven't gotten outside. The boys have handled it pretty well, but there are times where we're all suffering from 'summertime cabin fever'.

The other day I had run out of ideas. It was 10 am, and the boys had already long-passed their 1 hour of tv limit for the day. I desperately needed to get some things done, but also could not keep them occupied. They started playing with their tractors and I started sorting through our cupboards. It seems as though there are always 3 or 4 boxes of cereal in our cupboard that have less than a cup of contents left. I was trying to consolidate to make room for boxes that actually had cereal in them, when it hit me. Why not let the boys farm with 'corn'?!?! I got a bowl of Kix and let them fill up their wagons. They fed the cow and chicken A LOT of Kix.
Snack time and play time all rolled into one! My kind of day!

Hauling the corn to the 'very hungry' animals.

There are little moments in motherhood where I wish for a little girl to dress up or play tea with, but there are also times like this that I LOVE having boys!

Dollie,
What great fun! The little man I spend my days with also LOVES all things John Deere, and tractors of all sorts top the list of course :) I filled up a cake pan (with a lid) with cheap dried pinto beans for him. It's fairly neat as the beans usually stay well contained in the pan, and it's easy to store as we anticipate another day of fun with tractors and beans. I do usually lay out a plastic tablecloth on the floor under the pan of beans so that spills are easier to clean up as they're inevitable of course. He loves his beans, and they were a cheap investment too!
