This week our 'little boy' turned four. Four, FOUR, four! How is it that I'm a mother to a four year old?
We are loving watching him grow and develop into the man God made him to be...slowly. I am in no hurry for this sweet little face to grow whiskers and turn from cute to handsome.
Here is a picture of him on his last night of being 3!
We really don't do much for birthdays. No extravagant gifts, but this year Micah was quite excited about having a robot birthday. Don't ask me why...he's four, that's why!
He's been talking about it for over 8 months!
So, we embraced it and had a blast prepping.
We kept it pretty simple and just invited a few friends, and cousin Memphis, of course!
It was a 'kids only' party which was fun too!
The table before everyone got there. I hadn't put the snacks in the bowls yet, but they were labeled "Nuts and Bolts" and "Computer Chips". I totally found the idea online...don't go thinking I'm that creative!
We made robots by gluing random pieces of metal, plastic and springs onto tin cans.
We should've done a test run beforehand as we had a minor run-in with Super Glue and Jason's fingers, and we had trouble getting any kind of glue to get some metals to stick to the tin cans. Honestly, scrapbooking glue dots worked the best, we just stuck them to the can and then let the kids put the 'eye' or 'nose' on themselves.
A cheesy smile from our friend Fo.
I didn't get a group picture on my camera.
The 'robots'. It was fun to see how each child viewed their robot. For example, Micah's is the middle one, and is very abstract, while Forest's is the large one on the left- it has two eyes and an 'arm', which is holding a sword...no mouth or nose. I checked with him twice to see if he wanted anything else added.
Jackson and Willow were more traditional, but still added personal flare.
The cake was an experiment. Neither Jason nor I like store bought cake, plus their pricy, so I made a devils food cake mix and added dark chocolate chips to the batter. I made two round cakes and layered them with a little frosting in the middle. Here's where the experiment came in, I had seen and tasted fondant made with marshmallows, but had never tried to make it on my own. It was SO SO easy!!! Seriously! I had it made in less than 10 minutes! I found edible 'spray paint', made by Wilton, and sprayed the white fondant silver. Then I colored a little of it orange for the 'suction ears' and some blue for the eyes. Add a little gummy candies and you've got a robot cake! It was so fun!
*Credit for the suction ears goes to my mother-in-law. Micah is OBSESSED with Larry Boy right now. He is the superhero version of Larry from Veggietales. His 'super power' is that he has suction ears. We made the suction ears the night before, laid them over little rammikens and let them dry overnight. It worked GREAT! Thanks Cindy for the awesome idea!
We asked for no gifts, but there were a few to open, including a sweet board book 'from' Jude called Brothers Forever, the newest Sally Lloyd Jones book, a semi that holds matchbox cars and Micah's first real Bible. When Micah switched to the pre-k class in Sunday School this fall he came home asking for his Bible so he could take it to class with him. We decided that even though he can't read yet, we'd get him a full length Bible. He is excited to highlight the verses he's read in it!
Micah, we love you beyond words. You are a blessing in so many ways. We love your attention to detail, your sensitive heart, and your love for learning. We are so excited to see what God has in store for you and are honored to be your Mother and Father!
