Six months ago...

Six months ago...or more like seven months ago, I was sitting in this rocking chair praying for God to deliver me from this thing called 'pregnancy'. As many of you remember, my limbs and face...well all of me, acutally...was swollen beyond recognition and Micah seemed quite comfortable camped out in my womb. It is crazy what a difference such a short period of time makes in one's life. This handsome boy is becoming a man before my very eyes. Okay, maybe not quite a MAN, but he is growing up so fast. Here are a few of his six month pictures.

Here he is posing for the camera, while he grinds his gums...his new favorite pasttime. It drives his mother crazy. I think its part of the teething process, but who knows...either way its weird.

Just as a reminder, I put Micah's one month picture on this post. Look how much he's changed! I'm so glad he can hold his "97th percentile" sized noggin' up now...he looks so uncomfortable in this picture!

So here is one of Micah's new favorite spots. He sits, with very little help from his 'boppy', and plays with toys. If I'm lucky he'll play there for a good 15-20 minutes. I'm satisfied with that, and it beats putting him in front of the TV. He does pretty good until....

this. He reaches for something and just falls over. I took this picture as an example of what an angel we have for a child. Jason and I were both in the kitchen and when I came out, there was Micah sideways. He didn't make a peep to let us know of his very-uncomfortable-looking position. I'm sorry, but I find that rather amazing. I honestly don't know how we got blessed with such a laid back child.

While we (Jason) are dedicated JayHawk fans, we do live in Iowa City...so we must support the Hawkeyes too. Micah LOVES Jason's ball caps, particularly when they are on Jason's head. I tried this one on Micah and he actually left it there for quite some time!

We took Micah to the doctor today because we thought he might have an ear infection...he doesn't! Thank God! He has been running a temp for a couple of days now, and today was very grumpy...crying any time I put him down. He wouldn't even sit up at Missy's, he just reclined against me. When I got home he just kept crying, and not a normal cry, like a hurt cry. He has always rubbed his ears when he gets tired, but today he would not stop rubbing and pulling at his ears...and he had just woke up from a nap. So, after talking to the nurse, we decided it didn't hurt to get it checked out. I personally think he's teething, but I am also just a mom...a first time mom at that!

These, my friends, are just a sample of the goodies I found in the forest this weekend. Jason was out of town, so Micah and I headed down to my parent's on Saturday so I wasn't stuck in our 900-and-some square food apartment for 2 days with no one but a six month old to talk to. I had the priviledge of mushroom hunting in the morning AND the afternoon. My sister Phoebe acutally found the big yellow one, but was generous enough to let me keep it! We only found about 20 over the span of about 3 hours...not too good of a return on my investment, but it was so nice just to get outside!
Crazy story!!!!
In the morning my sister, Amanda, and her sons, Seth and Grady, went mushrooming...about 20 minutes into this endeavour Amanda fell, yes fell, onto a huge locust thorn. Now, if you've never seen a locust thorn, let me explain. Locust trees are nasty, they grow thorns, huge thorns, in clumps all over their trunks and on their branches. When I say huge, I'm talkin' HUGE...like 3-4 inch thorns. So, Amanda was ever-so-gracefully crossing the creek and fell onto a clump of thorns. I heard her scream and then she yelled for me to come help her. Me, being the calm one, (yeah right) saw this huge clump of thorns sticking out of her arm and screamed bloody murder. She made me pull the thorn, which had gone to the bone in her thumb, out! (barf) Later that night she visited the ER and found out that part of the thorn may or may not be still in there and that she dislocated her thumb. They splinted her and gave her perscription pain meds. Why perscripton pain meds, you ask? As if growing 3 inch thorns all over your trunk and branches wasn't enough Locust thorns are aparently very annoying and possibly toxic? to your system. Regarless of their toxicity, they cause extreme pain and swelling. Sound like fun? I think not. Hats off to my fearless, strong sister, who assured my scared nephews that "Mamma's fine!"

Wow, he grows like a weed! What a cutie and so patient! What a difference a few months makes! Sorry to hear about your sister! That sounds terrible! We are majorly missing mushroom hunting this year! Its our first year without them in AGES!!! I have to admit we are not missing the locust thorns though! Or the poison ivy!
