My sister Amanda, with her boys Grady and Seth. Ice Cream from the Dary Barn, mmmmm! (I opted for a Pork Chop on a stick instead)
A much needed break from walking around the fair and riding in the stroller. Micah loved the wood chips...don't worry, he didn't put any in his mouth this time!
I love this photo. Micah is showing us a piece of grass in the 'farmyard'. He was a little too small for the farming, so he played in the grass with Jason.
Ahhh! The giant slide. This is a classic state fair attraction...one that I have been too chicken to partake in. One year I climbed clear to the top and had to climb back down...like I said, too chicken. My sisters Carrie and Amanda, along with my nephews Seth and Grady enjoyed every minute of it...as you can see!
Micah's first close-up experience with baby chicks. He loved them!
The Blackley household recently had a moment of weakness...allow me to explain. We decided that we would not go to the Iowa State Fair this year since we are leaving tomorrow (yay!) for Oregon, AND in a few short weeks we are buying our first home. We felt like we could use our money in better ways with all of these expenses coming up.
Jason and I love the Iowa State Fair. I love it for nostalgic purposes and Jason says he loves it because I love it, and he says he loves to see me excited. (I must be pretty boring the rest of the year). Anyway, every year we watch the state fair coverage on IPTV. I told you we love the state fair. Monday night we sat down at 9pm to watch it and our emotions got the best of us. We realized we just couldn't say "NO" to the fair, but were really torn with whether or not we should go. I told Jason we should see what the weather would be like on Saturday. After seeing that it was forcasted for a high of 75, we decided to just do it! Two of my sisters and their families were going to be there, so that was even more of a motivation.
We packed water bottles, ate an early lunch from Hy-Vee (much cheaper than state fair food) and kept our expenses to a minimum. We had a blast! It was fun to go with family, usually it is just Jason and I, so the extra family time was a treat. Everyone got along great, and Seth and Micah even took short naps in the strollers. It couldn't have been a more beautiful day, just hot enough to make it feel like the fair, but followed by a cool breeze.
In the end I think we made the right decision!

I think you made the right decision! Love the pics!!
Yes, you did what was right! Looks like so much fun - I think we'll have to get our kids there next year!!
You are not boring the rest of the year!!!
We just went to the Kentucky State Fair on a beautiful Saturday as well... someday I think it would be amazing to enter something in to the fair (not with the expectation of winning, just to try!) I loved the giant grilled sweet corn on the cob, yum yum! Glad you all had fun :)
That fair has quite the reputation! Someone here knew it was going on and when she learned I was from Iowa asked me about it. I was ashamed to admit I had never gone...looks like I have missed out on lots of fun!
