These Feet

I started to write this blog post a few months ago. Life got away from me. I've finally finished it and feel stronger about my children's feet than ever...however stinky they may be!
I just spent the entire nap time blogging, so here is another post. I'm an all or nothin' kind of gal!

I often go through my day, and my thoughts become somewhat like Facebook status'.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this!

Today one of my 'facebook status thoughts' for the day came while changing a dirty diaper, as I wrestled a strong-willed one year old. I thought, "I will never grow tired of looking at, kissing, photographing, or holding baby feet."
I wont, I love them! They're chubby, cute, and incredibly flexible! I love how they are just as wide as they are long. They melt my heart.

As I thought about how someday my boys won't have baby feet, I began to think about all of the things their feet would do someday. It kind of overwhelmed me, but then I decided to pray for them...and their feet.

These are my prayers for my boys, their feet, and where the Lord will take those feet:

I pray that their feet will be strong, that they will stand firm in trials. I pray that they will not sway to the left or to the right, but that their feet, and eyes, will be fixed on Jesus.

"Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
Put away perversity from your mouth;
keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
Let your eyes look straight ahead,
fix your gaze directly before you.
Make level paths for your feet
and take only ways that are firm.
Do not swerve to the right or the left;
keep your foot from evil."
Proverbs 4:23-27

I pray that they will be proud of their feet, and every part of their body that the Lord made.

"For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully
and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well."
Psalm 139:13

I pray that they will place their feet behind their knees as they kneel in humility before our God and King. I pray that though they will be strong, that they will humble themselves and admit that they can do nothing without Jesus' saving grace, power, and love.

"Young men, in the same way be submissive
to those who are older.
All of you, clothe yourselves with humility
toward one another, because,
God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble.
Humble yourselves, therefore, under
God's mighty hand, that he may
lift you up in due time.
Cast all your anxiety on him because
he cares for you."
1 Peter 5-7

I pray that their feet will stand up for the Truth. I pray that they will not settle for un-truths or tolerate people who attempt to add to or take away from God's word.

"I warn everyone who hears the words of the
prophecy of this book:
If anyone adds anything to them, God will
add to him the plagues described in this book.
And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy,
God will take away from him his share in the
tree of life and in the holy city,
which are described in this book.
Revelation 22:18-19

I pray that their feet will work hard. Work is one of the best things that we can teach our children. I pray that they will work as if they are working for the Lord and not for man...so that man can see God in all that they do.

"Whatever you do, work at it with
all your heart, as working for the Lord,
not for men."
Colossians 3:23

I pray for their feet, as they stand at the end of the aisle awaiting their bride someday. I pray that they will be Godly men who will lead their home with integrity. That they will lead their wife and children in a way that brings honor and glory to the Lord.

"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ
loved the church and gave himself
up for her"
Ephesians 5:25

"Fathers, do not exasperate
your children; instead, bring them up in the
training and instruction of the Lord."
Ephesians 6:4

I pray for their feet, as they travel to far off lands. I pray that if the Lord calls them to a life of full-time ministry that they will answer the call. I pray for their safety, but also that they will not let fears hold them back from living to their fullest potential.

"For this is what the Lord has commanded us, "I have made you a light for the gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth." Acts 13:46-48

Speaking of fear, I pray that they will not be afraid to get their feet wet, literally and figuratively. I pray that they will see that they are here for a purpose, for a very short time, and feel the urgency of the moment.

"But about that day and hour no one knows, not even the Angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." Matthew 24:36

I pray for their children's feet. I can see them now. I pray that they will be as cute and as this chubby as this little pair, but that they will also grow into strong feet that will be unashamed of their Father, Creator, and Savior.

"Children's children are a crown to the aged, and parent's are the pride of their children." Proverbs 17:6

I pray, Lord, that you will protect these sweet sweet feet. The pit of my gut wants to pray that you will never let harm pass their way, that they will never have to walk on rocky paths or stub their toes, but I know that growth doesn't come without pruning. Lord, these feet were made for something bigger...take them there.

Dollie, I praise my God for the gift of writing He has given you to glorify Him. Who knew when, as a young girl, you won the writing contest and went to Des Moines for recognition that it was a part of His Plan. I thank Him for where your feet are taking you. Love, Mom
