Messes and Bonks

We recently learned why Dave Ramsey teaches to have an emergency fund, so you can pay for 2 ER visits in 8 days. That's right. My mom asked me if we could get a punch card.
The first visit I have no picture documentation of. We had gone down south to help my sister and her husband cut wood. They have blessed us in many many ways, and since she's pregnant, it seemed only appropriate that we offered our help.
We left Jude with my mom, if we took him along then I may as well stayed home. Micah, though, we felt would do fine and would probably love being in the woods. We geared up with old clothes, boots, and ear plugs.
I would like to preface this next part by saying that we could see him the whole time...we just didn't know what he was doing! He and our nephew, Seth, were on 'a safari', or so they told us. When we had a break I walked over to offer them a snack and water. I noticed Micah had red juice stains around his mouth. I asked him if he had eaten any berries and he said, "yeah, I eat a red mushroom." What?!?! I asked him to show me what he ate and he pointed to this tall weed with berries on it.
I didn't think a whole lot of it, honestly, but my sister-who is a nurse- suggested that we call my mom and have her identify it and make sure it wasn't poisonous. I did. She called back and said it was toxic, and gave me poison control's number. After talking to poison control, who are very kind and helpful, we decided that we should take him into the ER. Some of the side effects were GI upset, but others were low blood pressure and high heart rate, and we didn't want to chance it.
They listened to his heart, and took his weight. Then we waited. All in all, they just kept us until it had been 2 hours since he had eaten them. They didn't have to pump his stomach, which was good, and he never did show any signs or symptoms. It may be because, while we were sitting in the ER he told us that he had spit the berries out. Awesome...

8 Days later we were all 'wrestling' on our bed. This is a regular activity in our home. We have boys, you see. Our bed butts up the wall, and we don't have a headboard. A few inches of the windowsill overlaps where our bed is. Jude lost his footing and 'bonked' right on the corner of our MARBLE windowsill. Now, side rant, so bear with me: We live in a condo. While it is nice, it is nothing I would tag as luxurious or extravagant. Why on earth did they spring for marble windowsills? Seriously?!?!

Since he hit it right on the corner the cut was pretty deep. We both agreed it needed stitches. It was Sunday night, so off to the ER we went. We called a friend on the way to ask for advice and they offered to take Micah. This was a huge blessing, because it was right at bed time and we all know how quick ER visits go...
Jude got 5 stitches. He did well considering, and since he was still small enough to strap down they didn't have to put him under, which I'm thankful for.
When we picked Micah up from our friend's house he was wearing his friend, Claire's shirt-which was pink, and grey sweatpants. Annie said the only yellow shirt they had, had ruffled sleeves. We all got a good laugh out of it ;)

The next day he was walking across the living room and tripped over his feet, landing right on the wound. He popped on of the stitches. I took him in, and the doctor agreed with me that he didn't need it put back in or any extra bandage...thankfully.

It looks so much better now, he will definitely have a scar, but it could have been so much worse.

If that wasn't messy enough for you, maybe this will do the trick.

Jude + yogurt .... Mess!
